The booklet and photographs that make up this pack invite you to look again at the homes where we live, and at who does what in them.
As you talk and think about the photographs you will find that you are talking and thinking about childhood, growing-up, education, work, equality and justice. Specifically you will be talking and thinking about sex roles in our society.

The booklet has three main parts. In the first, there are descriptions of simple discussion activities and exercises which can be used to introduce pupils to the photographs and to get them thinking and talking. Most of these activities can be used exactly as they stand or slightly adapted for pupils of all ages and all abilities in primary and secondary schools.

In the second part there are discussion exercises which go beyond the photographs to more general issues for example to do with sexism, stereotyping, legislation, women's rights and equality of opportunity. Most of these exercises are more suitable for use in secondary schools, but they can be adapted for use with younger pupils.

The third part of the booklet is made up of various readings and quotations, which are in the first instance provided for the interest of teachers and other adult readers. However they can be happily shared with older pupils in secondary schools and Further Education Colleges.
