Inclusive Schools, Inclusive Society sets out practical steps schools can take to make themselves more inclusive and help build a more inclusive society. The book discusses key ideas and principles relating to identity, 'race' and racism, and outlines ways of improving curriculum content, teaching methodology, and ethos and relationships. It offers practical suggestions for using the Ethnic Minority Achievement Grant to maximum effect, and for qualitative evaluation. Based on surveys of good practice and the findings of recent research, this book shows how schools can improve the experience and attainment of all pupils and particularly those from ethnic minority backgrounds.
The book has been produced by Race On The Agenda (ROTA), working in partnership with the Association of London Government and Save the Children. ROTA is a policy development, information and research service for London's Black and Minority Ethnic voluntary sector. It commissioned the directors of the Insted consultancy in London, Robin Richardson and Angela Wood to write the book with ROTA's participation. Both authors have worked as teachers, lecturers, inspectors and advisers and written on education, including several books published by Trentham.

If, as Mr. Blunkett appears to have accepted, the curriculum does have a role in encouraging children to value cultural diversity and in combating the development of racism, the QCA would do well to pay close attention to the recent publication Inclusive Schools, Inclusive Society. - The Runnymede Bulletin.
